Artist Statement

Painting is for Ton a way to create his own reality and indulge himself in a world of tranquility, serenity and non-disturbance, as an opposite of his perception of the world that surrounds him in his day-to-day working life. It recreates a different world while he paints according to his wishes, reality, ideas, desires and doubts.

Colors he uses originate spontaneously on the palette and he uses them in an intuitive way. He mainly paints with acrylic paints on canvas.

His works explore the humankind and the not so humankind in their relationships with each other and spirituality, religion and love. His influences are first and foremost everything he sees, feels and experiences but he always loved the works of painters like Van Gogh, Piet Mondrian, Henri Matisse, Andy Warhol and Walesse Ting. His works are a kind of abstract realism bending towards pop-art.

His early works have been called a cross between African Tribalism, Picasso and Gauguin. He is fascinated by people and faces and is mainly painting them on canvas and paper.
